Why Not Consider Adopting Your New Best Friend?

Looking for a sidekick for your daily run? A couch potato who enjoys Netflix and Chill as much as you do? Why not consider adopting your new best friend? Here are few things to consider:

Background and history – shelters and rescues often have extensive background history on their adoptable dogs.  Many may have spent time in foster homes where they report back on how a dog behaves outside the shelter setting.  This allows you to have some idea of the dog’s temperament, likes and preferences so you can make an informed choice.  Need a dog that is good with kids or other animals in the home?  A shelter may have just the right fit for you.

Variety – A shelter and rescue will have a lot of dogs of different breeds and ages.  You might not even know you are a “terrier guy” or born to be a shepherd mix mom until you have the chance to meet one.

Help from an experienced shelter adoption counselor or staff member –  Adoption counselors are skilled at helping you find the right dog for your individual situation.  They are familiar with the personalities of the dogs in the shelter and can offer helpful advice on what might be a good fit along with great advice on how to successfully integrate your new furry friend into your household. They also provide valuable post adoption follow up and resources.

Save a life – You CAN be a superhero to a dog who is looking for their forever home!  Dogs end up in shelters for many reasons but all of them want to be part of your loving home.  Many shelter pup adopters get a feeling of gratitude from their shelter dogs and that bond is truly special.
