Rescue Directory Terms

1. About These Terms

These Rescue Directory Terms govern participation in the Woof World Rescue Directory by rescue organizations, shelters, and similar entities (“Organizations”). They supplement our Terms of Service, which continues to apply. Where these Terms conflict with the Terms of Service, these Terms control as to the Rescue Directory.

These Terms apply to Organizations. Members of the public who browse the directory are governed by the Terms of Service.

2. Eligibility

To be listed, an Organization must:

• Be a legally organized entity in good standing in its state of formation;
• Hold current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or be a government-operated animal shelter or animal control agency;
• Hold any license, registration, or permit required by its state or locality to operate as an animal rescue or shelter;
• Be registered for charitable solicitation where required by the states in which it solicits; and
• Operate in a manner consistent with humane treatment of animals.

We may request documentation of any of the above at any time.

3. Application and Approval

Listing is at our discretion. We may approve, decline, suspend, or remove any listing for any reason or no reason, and we are not obligated to explain a decision.

Approval is not an endorsement, certification, accreditation, or recommendation, and it does not mean we have inspected an Organization’s facilities, verified its practices, or evaluated the welfare of animals in its care.

4. Information You Provide

You represent that all information submitted for your listing is accurate, current, and complete, including your legal name, tax identification number, tax-exempt status, address, contact information, service area, adoption process, and any description of your work.

You must notify us within thirty (30) days if your tax-exempt status changes or is revoked, your legal status or registration changes, you become subject to a governmental investigation or enforcement action relating to animal welfare or charitable solicitation, or any information in your listing becomes inaccurate.

We may remove a listing that contains inaccurate information, and we may verify information independently at any time.

5. Your Content and Our Use of It

You grant Woof World a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to display, reproduce, adapt, publish, and distribute the content you submit — including your name, logo, photographs, descriptions, and animal listings — in connection with operating and promoting the Rescue Directory, the Site, and our programs.

You represent that you hold all rights necessary to grant this license, that your content does not infringe any third-party right, and that any identifiable person appearing in your content has consented to its use.

You retain ownership of your content. This license ends within a commercially reasonable period after your listing is removed, except for copies retained in backups, in aggregated form, or where content has been shared by others.

6. Adoptions and Placements

Adoption, fostering, transport, and placement arrangements are solely between an Organization and the adopter or foster.

Woof World is not a party to any adoption or placement, does not screen adopters, does not vet Organizations beyond the eligibility checks described in Section 2, does not participate in placement decisions, and assumes no responsibility for any animal, adopter, foster, or Organization.

Organizations are solely responsible for their own adoption processes, screening, contracts, health and vaccination disclosures, spay and neuter compliance, transport arrangements, and compliance with all applicable animal transfer, importation, and quarantine laws.

7. Donations and Funds

Where the Site facilitates a donation to an Organization, or where an Organization receives funds through a Woof World contest, promotion, or initiative, the Organization is responsible for:

• Using the funds consistent with its stated charitable purpose;
• Complying with all charitable solicitation registration and reporting requirements in every state in which it solicits;
• Providing donor acknowledgments and substantiation as required by law; and
• Its own tax reporting.

We may request documentation showing how funds received through Woof World were used.

Listing in the Rescue Directory does not entitle an Organization to receive any funds. Where an Organization receives funds from Woof World through a contest, promotion, or other initiative, that arrangement is governed by a separate written agreement between Woof World and that Organization. Where an Organization is named as the owner of a dog entered in a contest by a foster caregiver, any prize is payable to the Organization as described in the Terms of Service, and the Organization is the prize recipient for all purposes including tax reporting.

8. Standards of Conduct

Listed Organizations may not:

• Represent or imply that the Organization receives, or is entitled to receive, proceeds from any Woof World contest, promotion, or initiative, unless a separate written agreement provides for it.
• Misrepresent tax-exempt status, licensing, adoption fees, or the health, temperament, breed, or history of any animal;
• Sell animals, broker animals for profit, or operate as a breeder or retail seller under the guise of rescue;
• Use the Rescue Directory to solicit business unrelated to animal rescue;
• Use Woof World’s name, logo, or marks in a way that suggests endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation beyond directory listing;
• Represent that Woof World has certified, accredited, or vetted them; or
• Engage in conduct that would violate our Community Guidelines.

9. Suspension and Removal

We may suspend or remove a listing immediately and without notice where we identify a violation of these Terms, a loss of tax-exempt status or required licensing, a credible report of animal neglect or cruelty, a governmental investigation or enforcement action, or any conduct we determine may harm animals, the public, or Woof World’s reputation.

An Organization may request removal of its listing at any time by contacting us.

Removal does not entitle an Organization to any refund, compensation, or continued access to any benefit.

10. Reports of Animal Welfare Concerns

We may receive reports about listed Organizations. We review them at our discretion and are under no obligation to investigate or to take any particular action.

Where a report suggests an animal is in immediate danger, contact local animal control or law enforcement. We are not an emergency service and cannot intervene.

We may report concerns to appropriate authorities and may share information about an Organization with those authorities.

11. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

The Rescue Directory is provided “as is.” We make no representation or warranty about any Organization, its practices, its personnel, the health or temperament of any animal, or the outcome of any adoption or placement.

Our liability to any Organization arising out of or relating to the Rescue Directory is subject to the limitations in our Terms of Service.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Woof World and its members, officers, employees, and agents from any claim, loss, liability, damage, cost, or expense, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of your listing, your content, your adoption or placement activity, your use or handling of funds, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

13. Relationship of the Parties

Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, agency, or fiduciary relationship. Each party is an independent entity.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, we will update the version number and effective date above and notify listed Organizations by email at least thirty (30) days before material changes take effect. Continued listing after the effective date is acceptance.

15. Dispute Resolution

Disputes are governed by the dispute resolution, arbitration, and class action waiver provisions of our Terms of Service.
